Mission Statement

Tusculum College remains true to its origins as a church-related institution of higher learning in the civic republican tradition by developing educated citizens distinguished by academic excellence, public service, and qualities of Judeo-Christian character. The College reflects the ideal of its civic arts heritage through its commitment both to integrity and to the development of strong citizenship qualities in the traditional-aged students from diverse backgrounds as well as the working-adult students from the region. Furthermore, the College uses innovative approaches to teaching and learning at the undergraduate and Master's levels to instill factual knowledge, cultivate the habits of practical wisdom, and develop the skill of reflective thinking, all necessary for personal success in a democratic society.

Vision

Tusculum College will continue the traditions that are the hallmark of a unified institution in its third century. The strength of the College will reflect the dedication of caring individuals who exhibit compassion and empathy for the diversity in others. In addition, the College will be characterized by graduates distinguished for their commitment to public service and unhampered by differences in culture and language.

The College will be a readily available resource for the community. As Tusculum College reaches outward, its communities will view it as an important partner in bettering the li ves of their citizens.

The Tusculum College faculty will be recognized nationally for creative instructional innovation and will further be distinguished by a body of scholarly and creative works. The faculty will be provided opportunities for self-renewal and professional development to maintain currency in disciplines and allow time for reflective thinking and creation o f new programs.

Tusculum students will be recognized regionally and nationally for scholastic, co-curricular and athletic accomplishments.

Access to the latest resources and technology will ensure that Tusculum College graduates are well-prepared for both fulfilling careers and successful graduate study - outcome s that are the result of their refined ability to synthesize knowledge from multiple sources of information.

The college community will take pride in the high quality of its programs. Effective use of current resources and the infusion of new support will be used to continually stre ngthen existing programs and to create new ones in fulfillment of the Tusculum College Mission. Program development will be guided by clear expectations of performance and colle ge-wide assessment measures.

Achieving the vision outlined above can occur only through a bold planning process that is supported by in-depth assessment efforts and that links conceptual aspects of planni ng with the reality of budgeting. To be successful, the planning process must encourage input from all the College's stakeholders, must be based where possible on the attainment of measurable outcomes, must enable existing campus committees to participate in a meaningful way in the governance structure, and must recognize the ultimate authority of the Bo ard of Trustees to approve the College's plan.
