The 2nd Annual Tusculum College Undergraduate Conference
on Literature and Creative Writing

The conference will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2006.
Registration begins at 9:00 A.M.

There is a $20 conference fee which also covers the cost of lunch and includes a ticket to that evening's production of Much Ado About Nothing by the Shenandoah Shakespeare's Blackfriars State Company.

The conference is directed towards undergraduate work on a literary topic or a piece of creative writing. Participants should be enrolled in an undergraduate college or university. Each participant must also have a faculty member from her/his college or university as a sponsor. Sponsoring faculty members must fill out the faculty sponsor form.

Lunch will be served on campus. Our guest speaker is Aaron Gwyn, whose collection of short stories, Dog on a Cross, was a finalist for the New York Public Library's 2005 Young Lion's Fiction Award. His stories have been published in Louisiana Literature, Glimmer Train, and Black Warrior Review and anthologized in New Stories from the South. He is currently at work on his first novel, Ink, about a tattoo repair artist. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he is an Associate Professor of English at UNC-Charlotte.

Paper Guidelines:

  • Each participant must submit an abstract no longer than one page typed and double spaced which gives a brief description of the main topic and ideas presented in this piece of work. This abstracts must be sent either by e-mail or mail by February 28, 2006.
  • Each participant will have 10 minutes to present his/her paper. There will be a brief question and answer period at the end of each session.
