Tusculum College Adult Learning Development Center

Tusculum's Recipe for Success!

About the Adult Learning Development Center

Opened in January 2005, the Adult Learning Development Center is located at the Knoxville Regional Center in the new ACCESS Center (room 108) and provides a variety of services specifically tailored for the adult student.

Adult learners may have fundamentally different needs for assistance; some need more direction in the mechanics of learning while others need more emotional support. Whatever your needs, the Adult Learning Development Center provides a comprehensive support system that meets you where you are and combines assistance in academic areas with personal assessment.

Rather than focusing solely on weak skill areas, a developmental approach will be taken that assumes that everyone has talents and is strong in some area. By acknowledging these strengths while building those areas that are underdeveloped, a more positive tone is established with the student.

Learning assistance may be needed at different times to increase your personal and professional effectiveness and efficiency. The Graduate and Professional Studies Adult Learning Development Center is designed to address the needs of adult learners by establishing an outlet for you to become a self-directed lifelong learner by providing academic and motivational advising supportive of your educational, life and career goals.

Taking a comprehensive view of the individual student, the purpose of the Adult Learning Development Center is to provide the adult student with the opportunity to develop appropriate skills that will actualize their learning goals, seeking to promote growth in both academic and personal areas. "Learning support" is defined as any activity that contributes to individual students' attendance, retention, learning, and achievement.

A secondary mission of the Adult Learning Development Center is to extend services and programs to faculty, staff, alumni, and the surrounding community. In achieving its purpose, the Adult Learning Development Center helps the institution to maintain standards of excellence.
