BASEBALL TAKES PAIR IN WINS OVER ST. ROSE, NEWBERRY

 

                KANNAPOLIS, N.C. --- The No. 11 Tusculum College baseball team recorded a pair of wins on Friday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis.  Fourteen different players recorded a hit in the Pioneers’ 22-1 rout of the College of St. Rose.  Tusculum recorded four triple and got a stellar pitching performance from Raymond Ruggles in a 10-3 non-conference win over Newberry in the night-cap.

 

                Tusculum (3-2) muscled out 19 hits and established a school single-game record by turning four double plays in a 22-1 victory over St. Rose.  Adam Wilson went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Carlos Rivera, Sean Cotton and Jake Fowler also posted multi-hit games.

 

                Tusculum scored in every inning, but one, including a five-run second inning and seven runs in the fifth.  Tyler Collins tossed seven innings as he scattered six hits and allowed one run in his collegiate debut.

 

                In the Newberry game, Tusculum out to a 7-0 advantage as Maikol Gonzalez, Christian Rosa and Rivera each recorded triples in a 10-3 win over the Indians.  Ruggles pitched seven innings as he allowed seven hits, three runs, two earned, walked one and struck out eight.  Boo Morrow tossed two innings of shutout relief.

 

                Matt Ford accounted for two doubles for the Pioneers, joining Rivera, Gonzalez and Dustin Morrow with multi-hit performances.

 

                Tusculum will face Catawba in a non-league tilt, Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
