TUSCULUM
JUMPS TO SIXTH IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL
POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. --- Tusculum College has jumped five spots and is
ranked sixth in the nation according to this week’s Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division II Coaches’ Top 30 Poll,
announced College officials Monday.
The Pioneers (5-2) went 4-0 last
weekend in Kannapolis, N.C. and are riding a five-game winning streak heading
into this week’s South Atlantic Conference opener at Lenoir-Rhyne. Tusculum posted a pair of wins over St. Rose
and one victory each against Catawba and Newberry in non-conference action.
Two-time defending national
champion Tampa once again holds the top spot, receiving 480 points. Ouachita Baptist and Mount Olive are tied for
second with 456 total points. OBU is 6-0
on the season, while Mount Olive is 6-1 and have won its last four
straight. The Trojans only loss was a
9-5 decision to Tusculum.
CSU Chico is up 10 spots to No.
4 with 430 points, while West Alabama holds down the No. 5 spot for a second
straight week. Tusculum is sixth,
followed by Franklin Pierce, Grand Valley State, Armstrong Atlantic, Delta
State and Southern Arkansas to round out the top 10.
Florida Southern is 12th,
followed by Georgia College & State University, UC San Diego, Central
Oklahoma, Emporia State, Columbus State, Montevallo, Minnesota State-Mankato and
Francis Marion. West Chester is 21st
for a second straight week, while Southern Indiana dropped 16 spots to
No. 22. SIU Edwardsville is 23rd,
while Mesa State took the biggest plunge of the week, falling from second all
the way to a tie for 24th with California (Pa.). USC Aiken is 26th, followed by
North Alabama, Ashland, Catawba and Slippery Rock.
