TUSCULUM BASEBALL BLANKS NEWBERRY 9-0

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Christian Rosa went 3-for-3 to lead the Tusculum College baseball team to a 9-0 South Atlantic Conference win over Newberry College Friday night at Pioneer Park.  The Pioneers (15-8, 6-6 SAC) win their fifth straight game and 16th in a row at home dating back to last season.

 

                Tusculum rattled off 15 hits on the night, while Raymond Ruggles and Ryan Pfleger combined on a two-hit shutout.  It is the second straight shutout for the TC pitching staff and third in the last four games.

 

                Maikol Gonzalez went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, while Brandon Behenna, Carlos Rivera and Aaron Hudgins also finished with two hits each.  For Rosa, he extends his hitting streak to 19 consecutive games and has reached base safely in his last 58 contests.

 

                Ruggles (4-2) went 6.1 innings as he scattered two hits, walked one and struck out seven.  Pfleger went the final 2.2 innings and didn’t allow a hit as he walked one and recorded a strikeout.  Newberry starter Josh McElwee (0-4) suffered the loss for the Indians (8-18, 2-8 SAC).

 

                The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
