ROSA NAMED SAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum catcher Christian Rosa has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball
Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the first time this season and third
time in his career he has earned this honor.
Rosa, a 5-9 native of Puerto
Rico, batted .667 to lead the Pioneers to a
5-1 record during the week. Rosa went
16-for-24 at the plate with four doubles, a triple and three home runs. He also scored 14 runs, drew five walks and
struck out only once.
Rosa
also went 10-for-13 (.769) in a South Atlantic Conference series win over
Newberry.
Last
Tuesday, he had quite a day in road wins at Stillman
(9-0) and Montevallo (12-3). In the
afternoon victory at Stillman, Rosa went 2-for-4,
including a double and a home run. Later
that night at Montevallo, he went 3-for-4, including two home runs.
In
Tusculum’s 9-0 win over Newberry, Rosa was perfect on the day going 3-for-3,
while also drawing a pair of walks. Rosa
followed that with a 4-for-6 performance in a 12-inning loss to the
Indians. In that game, he posted a pair
of doubles and a triple. In the series
finale, Rosa went 3-for-4 and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly as
Tusculum prevailed 4-3.
Rosa
is batting .448, including a 21-game hitting streak. Rosa has also reached base safely in his last
58 games, dating back to last season.
The
SAC Baseball Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league’s sports
information directors.
