TUSCULUM BASEBALL OUTSLUGS LIMESTONE 19-12

 

                GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Maikol Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with four RBI as the Tusculum baseball team defeated host Limestone 19-12 Sunday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field.  The Pioneers (25-11) take two of the three games during the weekend series and three of the four encounters with the Saints (20-21) this year.

 

                Tusculum erupted for 10 runs in the first inning as the first seven Pioneers reached, including a three-run triple by Payden Houser.  In all, 15 batters went to the plate for Tusculum in the first.

 

                TC’s Carlos Rivera went 3-for-5 and scored three runs, while Houser also accumulated three hits and four RBI in the victory.

 

                Limestone’s Zach Watkins went 4-for-6 with a pair of triples and scored four runs, while David Christy added a 3-for-3 effort for the Saints.

 

                Tusculum starter Eric Donahue (4-1) pitched six innings, allowed seven hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts.  LC starter Clayton Knight suffered the loss.

 

                The Pioneers also batted around in the fifth inning as 11 hitters went to the plate as TC scored six runs, including a two-run triple by Marc Hyndsman.  In all, Tusculum recorded four triples in the game, one shy of tying a school record.

 

                Tusculum returns home on Tuesday when the Pioneers host North Greenville University for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
