TUSCULUM BASEBALL WINS 13-3 AT KING

 

                BRISTOL, Tenn.--- Maikol Gonzalez went 4-for-6, including a pair of triples to lead the Tusculum College baseball team to a 13-3 road win at King College Wednesday afternoon in eight innings.  The Pioneers (28-11) tallied 19 hits and rallied from a 3-0 deficit with 13 unanswered runs to post their fourth consecutive victory.

 

                Carlos Rivera accounted for three hits in his third consecutive game, while Eric Conley also had a 3-for-4 day for Tusculum.  Christian Rosa, Sean Cotten and Eric Barclay each had multi-hit outings for the Pioneers.

 

                King’s Teon Richburg, Bryan Cruze and Craig Cant also tallied two hits apiece in the loss for the Tornado (21-8).

 

                TC starter Tyler Collins (3-0) remained undefeated on the season as he tossed six innings while allowing seven hits, three runs, one earned, two walks and three strikeouts.  Seniors Ryan Pfleger and Mat Galens shut out the Tornado in the final two innings.  KC starter Eric Allen suffered the loss.

 

                King accounted for all of its offense in the second inning when it plated three runs on three hits, including RBI singles by Cant and Richburg.

 

                Tusculum knotted the game in its next at-bat, highlighted by a two-run triple by Gonzalez with Rosa and Rivera aboard.  Cotten tied the game later in the inning when he singled home Gonzalez from third.

 

                TC sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth as the Pioneers scored six runs to take a 9-3 advantage.  Rosa provided the big hit of the frame with his three-run double.  TC added two more runs in the sixth and a run each in the seventh and eighth for the victory.

 

                Tusculum returns to action this weekend when the Pioneers travel to Brevard College for a three-game series, beginning with Saturday’s noon doubleheader.
