TUSCULUM LISTED IN NCAA BASEBALL STATISTICS

 

                INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum baseball team is listed in 35 statistical categories in this week’s NCAA Division II statistics announced College officials Thursday.

 

                The Pioneers are listed sixth in the country with their 23 triples and 13th in triples per game, averaging 0.74 per contest.  Last season, Tusculum led the nation in triples per game.  TC is also ninth in sacrifice flies (24), 17th in earned run average (3.37), 19th in runs scored (326), 19th in hits (442), 21st in doubles (81), 21st in walks (171), 21st in double plays turned (35), 23rd in hits allowed per nine innings pitched (8.74), 30th in scoring (8.36 rpg), 32nd in home runs (31), 34th in doubles plays turned per game (0.90), 37th in slugging percentage (.493), 37th in winning percentage (.718), 37th in doubles per game (2.08), 38th in stolen bases (60) and 47th in home runs per game (0.79).

 

                Senior catcher/outfielder Christian Rosa (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) is mentioned in eight individual categories, including fourth in runs scored (54), 12th in runs per game (1.42 rpg), 20th in hits (61), ninth in triples (5), 42nd in triples per game (0.13), 50th in home runs (8), 38th in slugging percentage (.754), 16th in total bases (113), 31st in walks (26) and 40th in on-base percentage (.754)

 

                Senior second baseman Maikol Gonzalez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) is listed in eight individual categories, including 36th in bating average (.458), 26th in runs per game (1.33 rpg), eighth in runs scored (52), seventh in hits (71), 28th in doubles per game (0.44 dpg), ninth in doubles (17), ninth in triples (5), 46th in runs batted in (48), 25th in total bases (107) and 16th in stolen bases (16).

 

                Senior outfielder Carlos Rivera (Leesburg, Va.) is ranked 29th in runs per game (1.34), 13th in runs scored (51), 39th in hits (64), ninth in triples (5) and 29th in sacrifice flies (4).

 

                Junior right-handed pitcher Boo Morrow (Lexington, Ky.) is having a banner campaign in the starting rotation, boasting a team-best 1.32 ERA, which is 13th in the country.  Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference pitcher Raymond Ruggles (Newport, Tenn.) is 27th in ERA (1.62) and 45th in hits allowed per nine innings pitched (6.84).

 

                Rookie Payden Houser (Lincolnton, N.C.) is also listed in this week’s national statistics and is 16th in triples (4).

 

                Rosa, Rivera and Gonzalez make up the top of the batting order for the Pioneers which has produced some outstanding numbers so far this season.  The trio, which has been nicknamed “The Three Amigos” is batting a combined .431, while accounting for 196 hits, 157 runs and driven in 120 RBI by the All-American trio.

 

                Tusculum (28-11), winners of its last four games, returns to action this weekend as the Pioneers take on Brevard College for a three-game non-conference series this weekend in Brevard, N.C., beginning with Saturday’s 1 p.m. doubleheader.
