TUSCULUM RANKED FIFTH IN NCBWA SOUTH REGION POLL

WINTER PARK, Fla. --- The Tusculum College baseball team has climbed two spots and is ranked fifth in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Division II South Region poll announced College officials Monday.

The Pioneers (33-12) have won nine of their last 10 and 14 games and 14 of 16.  Tusculum posted an 11-9 South Atlantic Conference record, finishing third in the league.

Defending national champion Tampa (30-7-1) holds the top spot in the rankings once again, going 2-1 last week.  Catawba climbed two spots posting a 4-0 record last week and claiming the SAC regular season title.  Lynn and Carson-Newman dropped a spot each and are ranked third and fourth respectively.  Tusculum is fifth, followed by Barry (28-12), Florida Tech (29-15-1), Albany State (32-14), Nova Southeastern (24-16) and Florida Southern (22-19).

Tusculum will be the No. 3 seed in this week’s Food Lion SAC Tournament, which will be held in Hickory, N.C.  The Pioneers will take on fourth-seeded and tournament host Lenoir-Rhyne, on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. from Bears Field.  The winner of the SAC Tournament earns an automatic berth to next month’s NCAA Division II Tournament.

The NCBWA South Region Poll isn’t used for selection purposes for the NCAA II Tournament.
