TUSCULUM
RANKED NO. 19 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL
POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. --- The Tusculum College baseball team has climbed 10
spots and is listed No. 19 in this week’s Collegiate
Baseball Division II Coaches’ Poll announced College officials.
The Pioneers (38-12) went 5-0
last week, including four straight wins to claim the 2008 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Tournament in Hickory, N.C.
Tusculum captures its second SAC Tournament title in school history,
while claiming an automatic berth to next month’s NCAA II Tournament. TC will
be making its fourth NCAA postseason appearance in six years.
Tusculum received 192 points and
is the top-ranked SAC team in this week’s poll.
SAC regular season champion Catawba is up a spot and is ranked 22nd
following its runner-up showing at the SAC Tournament to Tusculum. Carson-Newman is receiving votes following
its third place finish this past weekend at the SAC Tournament.
Mount Olive is once again the top-ranked
team in the country, while Emporia State is up two spots to second. Southern Arkansas and defending NCAA champion
Tampa are tied for third, while Delta State is fifth, followed by Sonoma State,
UC San Diego, Columbus State, USC Aiken, Abilene Christian, St. Joseph’s
(Ind.), Metro State, Franklin Pierce, West Chester and Valdosta State to round
out the top half of the poll.
Cal State Chico is 16th,
followed by Wayne State (Neb.), Tusculum, Erskine, Southern Indiana, Catawba,
Nebraska-Omaha, North Georgia, Ouachita Baptist, Concord, Wayne State (Mich.),
Western Oregon, Lynn, St. Edward’s, Ashland and Francis Marion.
Tusculum is slated to host the
South Region Baseball Classic, this weekend at Pioneer Park. Teams, schedule and times will be announced
later this week.
