TUSCULUM RANKED SECOND IN NCAA BASEBALL REGION POLL

INDIANAPOLIS --- For a second straight week, the Tusculum College baseball team is listed second in the latest NCAA Division II South Region rankings.

The Pioneers (38-13) have won six of their last seven games, including four in a row to win the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, claiming an automatic berth to the NCAA II Tournament.

Defending national champion Tampa is the top-ranked team in the South Region for a third straight week.  Tusculum is second, followed by SAC members Catawba and Carson-Newman.  Florida Tech moved up one spot and is fifth in this week’s poll, while Lynn falls to sixth.  Holding down the seventh and eighth spots once again are Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern.

Two teams in the region have already punched their ticket for the NCAA II South Regional, to be held May 15-18.  Tusculum earned the SAC bid, while Stillman will be the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representative, winning the SIAC Tournament two weeks ago.  The regular season champion of the Sunshine State Conference will claim the third and final automatic bid for the region.

Three at-large bids for the South Region will also be awarded later this month when the 48-team NCAA Tournament field is announced.
