FLORIDA SOUTHERN BEATS TUSCULUM 15-7 IN NCAA REGIONAL,

PIONEERS END SEASON AT 50-14

TAMPA --- The 2007 baseball season came to an end for Tusculum College as No. 17 Florida Southern took advantage of six TC errors en route to a 15-7 win over the 10^th-ranked Pioneers Saturday night in the elimination final of the NCAA Division II South Regional. With the win, the Mocassins (43-17) advance to Sunday’s regional final against top-ranked Tampa. Tusculum ends the year with a 50-14 record, establishing numerous school and conference records for wins and games played in a season.

Two of those five TC miscues came in Florida Southern’s nine-run, third inning as the Mocs rallied from a 3-2 deficit to jump out to an 11-3 advantage. Tusculum cut the deficit to 11-5 with three runs in the seventh, but the FSC answered with two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the contest out of reach.

The Mocs posted 16 hits, including four hits each by Arden McWilliams and Will Cherry, while David Golliner and Fred Popp each went 3-for-5.

Tusculum accounted for nine hits, including two hits by Maikol Gonzalez and one hit each by Matt Webb, Paul Finger, Aaron Porter, Danny Light, Marc Hyndsman, Eric Barclay and Andrew Winslow.

Adam Baust picked up the win (5-0) in relief as he tossed the final 6.2 innings as he scattered six hits, allowed four runs, one earned, walked four and struck out seven. TC starter Brandon Tuten suffered the loss to fall to 5-4 on the year.
