TUSCULUM'S GONZALEZ, RIVERA NAMED TO

NCAA REGIONAL ALL-TOURNAMENT BASEBALL TEAM

                TAMPA --- Tusculum College's Maikol Gonzalez and Carlos Rivera have been named to the 2007 NCAA Division II South Regional All-Tournament Team.

 

                Gonzalez, a junior second baseman from Maracaibo, Venezuela, batted .429 while driving in three runs.  The Daktronics South Region and South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year went 6-for-14 at the plate, scored four runs and drew three walks as the Pioneers went 2-2 and finished third at the region tournament.

 

                Rivera, a junior outfielder from Leesburg, Va., hit .444 in his four postseason games where he batted 8-for-18, scored four runs and stole two bases.  Rivera went 5-for-5 in Tusculum's 7-6 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

 

                South Region champion Tampa led with five honorees, including the regional's most outstanding player, Jonathan Holt.

 

                Tusculum ended the season with a school record 50-14 worksheet and is currently ranked 10th in the nation (NCAA II).
