TUSCULUM LISTED NO. 18 IN FINAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

 

                TUCSON, Ariz. --- The Tusculum College baseball team ended the 2007 season ranked No. 18 in the nation according to this year’s final Collegiate Baseball Division II Coaches’ Poll announced College officials.  The Pioneers accounted for their best season in school history as TC finished with a 50-14 record.

 

                The 50 wins are the most in school and South Atlantic Conference history as Tusculum was one of only seven schools in Division II to post 50 or more victories.  The Pioneers won their third straight SAC Championship while advancing to the NCAA II Tournament for the third time in five years.

 

                TC went 2-2 against teams ranked in the final top 30.  Tusculum dropped a 5-3 decision to eventual national champion Tampa in the winners’ bracket final of the NCAA South Regional.  TC also split two games against No. 5 Florida Southern and defeated No. 30 Florida Gulf Coast 7-6 in the second round of the Regional.

 

                The Pioneers established numerous school records including a TC and SAC best 23-game winning streak.  Tusculum had three players earn All-America distinction, including second baseman Maikol Gonzalez, pitcher Kevin Hammons and outfielder Carlos Rivera.

 

                Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of eight colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
