TUSCULUM RANKED NO. 14 IN FINAL PING!BASEBALL POLL

 

                OMAHA, Neb. --- Tusculum College has ended the season ranked No. 14 in the 2008 Ping!Baseball Division II Top 30 poll announced officials on Tuesday.

 

                The Pioneers (41-15) dropped eight spots and are one of three South Atlantic Conference listed in this year’s final rankings.

 

                Mount Olive captured its first national championship, posting an impressive 58-6 worksheet and hold the top spot in this year’s final poll.  Ouachita Baptist, who lost to the Trojans in the national championship game, finished second, climbing 20 spots from the previous poll.  Sonoma State is third, followed by Central Missouri State, Tampa, Ashland, Shippensburg, Franklin Pierce, Delta State and Southern Arkansas to comprise the top 10.

 

                CSU-Chico is 11th, followed by Nebraska-Omaha, USC Aiken, Tusculum, Columbus State, UC San Diego, Emporia State, Abilene Christian, West Chester, Catawba, Wayne State (Mich.), West Chester, Catawba, Wayne State (Mich.), West Alabama, Grand Valley State, West Virginia State, Bryant, Belmont Abbey, Carson-Newman, St. Joseph’s (Ind.), Wayne State (Neb.) and Erskine.

 

                Tusculum closed out the season on a 17-4 run, including four in a row to win the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, earning TC its second straight trip to the NCAA II Tournament and fourth in the last six years.  Tusculum accounted for its eighth consecutive winning season and fourth straight 40-win campaign.
