Wingate (20-8) advances to
Saturday's tournament semifinal against No. 2 Presbyterian College in a rematch
of last year's final.
SAC Player of the Year Sean
Barnette finished with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Bryan Grier
accounted for a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds to go along with five
blocked shots.
Wingate led 28-23 at halftime
and raced out to an 11-point advantage (40-29) with 13:57 remaining in the
game. Tusculum answered with a 15-4 run
and tied the game at 44-44 on a Corey Poindexter three-pointer with 8:40 left in the game.
The Bulldogs responded with nine
unanswered points, including a dunk by Grier and a three-pointer by Justin
Baker to take a 53-44 lead with 4:14 remaining.
Wingate shot 46 percent from the
floor and 73.9 percent from the foul line (17-23).
