KENNESAW STATE DEFEATS TUSCULUM 73-56 IN MEN'S BASKETBALL EXHIBITION

 

                KENNESAW, Ga. --- The exhibition season got off to good start for Kennesaw State as the NCAA Division I Owls scored the first 13 points of the game en route to a 73-56, win over Tusculum on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center in a men's basketball exhibition.                 KSU's Jonathan Whipple and Keonte Keith each hit three pointers in the first two minutes as Kennesaw State took a 14-point lead just over four minutes into the game.  Ronell Wooten and Ryan Daugherty each scored 16 points to lead all scorers as the Owls had eight players score in the game.

 

                Tusculum senior Jordan Lear recorded 13 points and game-high 10 rebounds for his double-double.  Darren Hobbs and Ryan Troutman added a dozen markers each.  Kyle Moore accounted for nine points, while Lavonti Jeter contributed eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.

 

                Freshman Kelvin McConnell hit a three-pointer, his only points of the game, with 6:37 left in the first half to give the Owls their largest lead of the half at 33-13. The Owls never trailed in the contest.

 

                Tusculum would come within 10 points of the Owls and had the ball, trailing by 11, before the Owls went on a 14-2 run to build their largest lead of the night, 23-points, late in the second half.

 

                Tusculum will play its third exhibition game in five days as the Pioneers travel to Vanderbilt for a 9 p.m. (EST) contest Monday night.
