LONG RANGE SHOOTING, SOLID DEFENSE PACES TUSCULUM PAST BLUEFIELD STATE 83-54

 

                BLUEFIELD, W.Va. --- Kyle Moore recorded 15 points and 10 assists to lead the Tusculum men’s basketball team to an 83-54 win over host Bluefield State in the consolation game of the Currence Classic.

 

                The Pioneers (1-3) shot 16-for-30 from three-point territory, led by Moore’s five treys.  Jimmy Boone and Jordan Lear added four 3-pointers each while being named to the All-Tournament team.  Boone accounted for 20 points, while Lear added 19 markers.

 

                Tusculum came out firing as the Pioneers shot 53.6 percent from the floor, including 9-of-18 from beyond the arc en route to a 40-27 advantage at halftime.

 

                Howard Coston and Mario Thompson each finished with 11 points, while Rico Thompson and Logan Shortridge posted 10 markers apiece.

 

                The Pioneers dominated the glass as TC out-rebounded the Big Blues by a 40-24 margin.  Ryan Troutman led Tusculum with nine boards, while Darren Hobbs added six boards in the victory.

 

                Tusculum returns to action Tuesday night as the Pioneers travel to NCAA Division I UNC Asheville.
