TUSCULUM WOMEN’S BASKETBALL BARELY MISSES CRACKING USA TODAY/ESPN TOP 25

 

                LILBURN, Ga. --- The Tusculum College women’s basketball team continues to receive votes in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Division II Coaches’ Poll announced College officials Tuesday.

 

                The Pioneers (19-3, 9-1 in South Atlantic Conference) received 42 total points, which is the 26th highest number of points earned in this week’s poll.

 

                Undefeated Delta State (20-0) holds down the top spot again, receiving 673 total points and 26 first place votes.  Also at 20-0 is No. 2 Seattle Pacific with 647 points.  North Dakota is third with 611 points, while South Dakota is fourth with 600 and a first place nod.  Concordia-St. Paul is fifth, while Drury stays at No. 6.  Holy Family is seventh, followed by Fort Lewis, Indiana (Pa.) and West Georgia to round out the top 10.

 

                Alaska Anchorage is down three spots to No. 11, followed by Arkansas Tech, California (Pa.), Valdosta State, Stonehill, Anderson (S.C.), West Texas A&M, Washburn, Fairmont State, Emporia State, Franklin Pierce, Hillsdale, Augustana, Michigan Tech and Francis Marion round out the top 25.

 

                Tusculum’s 42 points are the most votes earned by the Pioneers since TC reclassified to NCAA Division II in 1998.  The Pioneers host Wingate on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in an important league contest.  Tusculum is in first place by a half game over the second-place Bulldogs.  TC’s only league loss came against Wingate in an 89-80 decision last month.
