WOMEN LISTED SIXTH IN NCAA REGION RANKINGS
INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College women’s basketball team
climbed one spot and is listed sixth in this week’s NCAA Division II South
Atlantic Region rankings. The Pioneers
(21-3, 11-1 in South Atlantic Conference) have won their last six contests and
18 of their last 19 entering Wednesday’s league tilt with Newberry College.
At the end of the season, the
top eight teams in the region receive a berth to the NCAA II Tournament. The three conferences that comprise the South
Atlantic Region (South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) each receive
an automatic berth into the NCAA II Tournament, with five at-large berths being
awarded.
Francis Marion University holds
the top spot in the region, moving up one spot from last week. Columbus State University is second, while
Clayton State University holds onto the No. 3 spot. Augusta State University jumps two spots to
fourth, while North Georgia College & State University remains fifth. Tusculum is sixth, followed by Wingate
University, who drops three spots to No. 7, followed by Shaw University,
Johnson C. Smith University and USC Aiken.
Following the Newberry game,
Tusculum will be at home on Saturday when the Pioneers host Brevard College in
a non-conference tilt beginning at 6 p.m.
