TUSCULUM’S
STEPHANY NEPTUNE NAMED NATIONAL FINALIST FOR
WBCA/STATE
FARM COACHES’ ALL-AMERICA TEAM
ATLANTA --- Tusculum College forward Stephany Neptune has been named one of the 40 national finalists for the 2008
State Farm Coaches’ All-America Women’s Basketball Team for NCAA Division
II announced officials from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
The 40 finalists, who are voted
upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight regions, are now in the
running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
Neptune was one of five players
from Region 3 that were honored, along with Wingate’s Anna Atkinson, Lander’s Tiara
Goode, Syretha Marble of North Georgia and Celeste Trahan of Elizabeth City State.
Neptune, a 6-0 sophomore from
Wallkill, N.Y., is leading the South Atlantic Conference in rebounding,
averaging 11.1 boards per contest (10th in NCAA II), including 15.6 rpg in her last
six games. She has recorded a SAC-best
15 double-doubles and has tallied 20 or more rebounds on two occasions this
season. Neptune is also averaging 11.5
points per game, while also leading the team in field goal percentage (50.4% -
6th in SAC) and blocked shots per game (1.86 bpg
– 2nd in SAC).
Tusculum (25-3) captured its
first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship and is the top-seed in this
weekend’s Food Lion SAC Tournament. The
Pioneers (ranked No. 19 in NCAA II) will face No. 4 seed Newberry on Saturday
at 3 p.m. in a semifinal match-up. The
winner of that game advances to Sunday’s final.
Both games are being played in Hickory, N.C. at the Catawba Valley
Community College Arena.
