TIBER, PIONEERS TOUR ITALY IN SUMMER BASKETBALL TRIP

“Tusculum’s Jasmine Gunn Named AIST Tournament MVP”

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Earlier this month (May 26-June 5), Tusculum College women’s basketball coach Missy Tiber and other members of the Pioneer squad traveled to Italy to take part in the American International Sports Tour.  Joining Coach Tiber on the trip was assistant coach Adrianne Harlow, former Tusculum guard Brooke Underwood, ’08, current All-American forward Stephany Neptune and 2008 South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year Jasmine Gunn.

The trip was a successful one, both on and off the basketball hardwood.  Coach Tiber’s team, AIST South, consisted of Underwood, Neptune, Gunn and six other college players representing Chaminade University, Washington & Jefferson College, Chadron State College, Eastern Mennonite University, Grinnell College, Newbury College and the University of the District of Columbia.

AIST South posted a perfect 5-0 record en route to winning the “Dream Team Tournament.”  Gunn particularly shined as she poured in 35 points in an 82-68 win over Starlight Valmadrera in the championship game.  For her efforts, Gunn was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

The coaches and players enjoyed the sights of Italy, touring Rome, Milan, Como, Florence, San Marino City and Vatican City, including a tour of the Sistine Chapel.

Tusculum is coming off one of its best seasons in school history.  The Pioneers posted a 26-5 record while winning the program’s first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship.  TC advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in school history, while posting winning streaks of 12 and 11 games in a row.  Tiber was honored by her peers as she was selected the Division II South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA II member of the South Atlantic Conference, which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
