PIONEERS TOUR ITALY IN SUMMER BASKETBALL TRIP
“Tusculum’s Jasmine
Gunn Named AIST Tournament MVP”
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Earlier this month (May 26-June 5), Tusculum
College women’s basketball coach Missy
Tiber and other members of the Pioneer squad traveled to Italy to take part
in the American International Sports Tour.
Joining Coach Tiber on the trip was assistant coach Adrianne Harlow, former Tusculum guard Brooke Underwood, ’08, current All-American forward Stephany Neptune and 2008 South Atlantic
Conference Freshman of the Year Jasmine
Gunn.
The trip was a successful one,
both on and off the basketball hardwood.
Coach Tiber’s team, AIST South, consisted of Underwood, Neptune, Gunn
and six other college players representing Chaminade
University, Washington & Jefferson College, Chadron State College, Eastern
Mennonite University, Grinnell College, Newbury College and the University of
the District of Columbia.
AIST South posted a perfect 5-0
record en route to winning the “Dream Team Tournament.” Gunn particularly shined as she poured in 35
points in an 82-68 win over Starlight Valmadrera in
the championship game. For her efforts,
Gunn was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The coaches and players enjoyed
the sights of Italy, touring Rome, Milan, Como, Florence, San Marino City and
Vatican City, including a tour of the Sistine Chapel.
Tusculum is coming off one of
its best seasons in school history. The Pioneers posted a 26-5 record
while winning the program’s first-ever South Atlantic Conference
Championship. TC advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the
first time in school history, while posting winning streaks of 12 and 11 games
in a row. Tiber was honored by her peers
as she was selected the Division II South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by
the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the
Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA II member of the South Atlantic
Conference, which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee,
North Carolina and South Carolina.
