TUSCULUM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS LIVINGSTONE 73-54 IN SEASON OPENER

 

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. Sophomore Stephany Neptune’s 16 points and 11 rebounds led the Tusculum College women’s basketball team to a 73-54 victory over Livingston College Friday night in Pioneer Arena in the first game of the Greene County Express Lady Pioneer Classic.

 

The Pioneers took the quick 4-0 lead in the first half but were quickly halted with a three-pointer by Asheka Hudson, which sent the Lady Blue Bears on a 13-point run. Nikki Van Dine brought the Pioneers back in action at a 9-17 deficit with a three-pointer which lead TC to a four-point running closing in for the 15-17 deficit.

 

Ashli Oliver hit a three-pointer giving the Pioneers the 20-18 lead. The Blue Bears quickly retaliated with a three-pointer by Hudson but could not hold on as TC came right back with Jasmine Parker’s three-pointer. TC went on to lead 29-21 until Hudson fired another three as Livingstone edged closer. The Pioneers maintained the lead at half, 36-32.

 

TC continued to control the second half with as much as a 14-point lead and the eventual 73-54 victory.

Van Dine added 19 points and four assists for the Pioneers and was 5-of-6 in three-pointers and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Parker had nine points and four assists while Oliver added eight points.

 

Hudson had 19 points and Turquoise Lane added 14 points and 13 rebounds in the loss

 

Pfeiffer 65, Brevard 56

 

Laura Brittingham poured in 25 points off the bench to lead the Pfeiffer University women's basketball team to a 65-56 win over Brevard College Friday night in the second game of the 2007 Greene County Express Lady Pioneer Classic.  The four-team, two-day event is being host by Tusculum College at Pioneer Arena.

 

                Brittingham canned four 3-pointers and shot 11-for-13 from the free throw line.  Kalee Smith added nine points and seven rebounds, while Domonique China finished with nine markers and four steals in the victory.

 

                Brevard's Holly Krogman recorded a game-high 28 points and nine rebounds for the Tornados (0-1).  Krogman had a sensational outing as she fired 11-for-15 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.  She also recorded nine rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

 

                Pfeiffer forced 35 turnovers on the night, including 19 steals.

 

                Brevard opens day two action of the Greene County Express Classic on Saturday when it faces Livingstone College (0-1) at 2 p.m.  Pfeiffer will face host Tusculum (1-0) at 4 p.m. in the final game of the Classic.
