TUSCULUM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HAS UNDEFEATED WEEKEND AFTER 83-71 VICTORY OVER PFEIFFER

 

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. Sophomore Kat Spears’ 20 points and six rebounds led the Tusculum College women’s basketball team to a 83-71 Saturday in Pioneer Arena in the final game of the Greene County Express Lady Pioneer Classic.

 

The Pioneers hit first with and 8-0 lead until Ashelle Athill hit a jumper bringing the Falcons into the game. TC maintained the lead at 15-9 until a foul shot by Domonique China that sent Pfeiffer on a five-point run. At a 16-16 game, the Pioneers took off on a 7-2 point run for the 25-18 lead. TC continued to control the first half ending with a lay up by Brittni Oliver for the 47-33 lead. 

 

Tusculum controlled the second half of the game, with the largest lead being 15 points (61-46). The Falcons closed in on the Pioneers with the smallest deficit being eight points, but could not retaliate. Tusculum finished with a 56.4% shooting average while Pfeiffer finished with a 36.4%.

Ashli Oliver had 19 points and six rebounds while Jasmine Gunn added 18 points and five rebounds. Shanee Purnell had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, teammate Laura Brittingham added 18 points.

 

TC (2-0) will host Converse College Monday at 7 p.m.

 

 

BREVARD DEFEATS LIVINGSTONE, 76-66

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - In the third game of the Greene County Express Lady Pioneer Classic Brevard College defeated Livingstone, 76-66, Saturday in Pioneer Arena.

The Tornados of Brevard and Blue Bears of Livingstone battled until an 8-6 Brevard lead when Samantha Winn hit two foul shots and led the tornadoes on a six-point run for the 15-8 lead. Livingstone battled back but could not catch up to BU in the first half as the Tornadoes had as much as a 12 point lead (32-20). Livingston closed in on Brevard at the end of the first falling only eight points behind as the Tornadoes led, 38-30 at the half.

In the second half, Brevard kept maintained the lead and led by as much as 15 (59-44) until Livingstone's Turquoise Lane hit a three pointer to attempt the close in on Brevard. The Tornadoes continued to control the came and came out with the eventual, 76-66 victory.

Winn lead the Tornado offense with 19 points and six rebounds while teammate Courtney Brandon and Holly Krogman added 17 and 13 points respectively. Cassaundra Rhodes had 18 points and six rebounds for the Blue Bears while teammates Lane and Asheka Hudson added 13.
