TUSCULUM RAINS THREES IN 81-52 WIN AT BREVARD
BREVARD, N.C. --- The Tusculum College
women's basketball rained 15 three-pointers, all from two players as the Pioneers
defeated host Brevard
College 81-52 Saturday
afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium. Ashli Oliver accounted
for a season-high 26 points, including eight 3-pointers. Nikki
Van Dine scored 21 points on seven treys, all in coming in the opening
half.
Stephany Neptune finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jasmine Gunn and Jasmine Parker dished out nine and seven assists, respectively.
Tusculum (4-2) led wire-to-wire as the
Pioneers opened with a 12-2 run, all coming from beyond the arc, two each by
Oliver and Van Dine. TC took a pair of
21-point leads in the first half, before settling for a 48-31 lead at the
intermission. Tusculum shot 59.4 percent from the floor in
the opening 20 minutes, including 10-of-18 from three-point land, while
limiting the Tornados (3-3) to 39 percent shooting, including 22 percent from
long range.
Tusculum opened the second half
with a 14-2 run to put the game out of reach and would lead by as many as 32
(74-42) to close out the contest.
Brevard was led by Holly Krogman's
18 points, while Samantha Winn added
13 points in the loss.
Eight players found the scoring
column for Tusculum,
including four markers each by Kat
Spears, Parker and Chloe Obasogie.
The Pioneers shot 15-for-27
three-point land, three 3-pointers shy of a school single-game record. The eight treys by Oliver were the third most
in TC history, two shy of her school and conference leading 10 she made last
season.
Tusculum returns to action Monday as the
Pioneers travel to Lees-McRae for a 6 p.m. game.
