TC WOMEN 12^TH, MEN 13^TH AT WINGATE INVITATIONAL

WINGATE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women’s cross country team placed 12^th out of 17 teams competing in the 2005 Wingate University Invitational on Saturday. The TC men’s cross country squad finished 13^th.

Tusculum posted a team score of 302 in the 6K women’s event, which was won by Alabama-Huntsville with a score of 37. Freshman Alicja Dembna (Poznan, Poland) was the Pioneers’ top runner, placing 26^th with a time of 26:11. Junior Sarah Alston (Morristown, Tenn.) came in 54^th with a time of 27:35, and junior Ashley King’s (Piney Flats, Tenn.) time of 28:32 placed her 67^th among 124 runners.

Rounding out the results for the TC women were sophomore Jamie Dyke (Newport, Tenn.) who logged a time of 30:26 to finish 88^th and freshman Sarah Browning (Russell, Ky.) who came in 89^th with a 30:50 time.

In the men’s event, Tusculum came in 13^th with a score of 350. Mars Hill won the 10K race with a team score of 55. Senior Ross Lewis (Morristown, Tenn.) was the top runner for the Pioneer men’s squad, posting a time of 39:14 to finish 54^th. Following closely behind was freshman Chris Haney (Denver, N.C.), whose mark of 39:47 placed 59^th out of 112 runners.

Rounding out the men’s results for TC were freshman Stephen Jones (Newport, Tenn.; 94^th; 44:26), freshman Richard Neese (Hunstville, Ala.; 98^th; 44:54), sophomore Scott Howard (Wakefield, Mass.; 111^th; 58:33), and senior David Hileman (Castlewood, Va.; 112^th; 63:44).

The Pioneer cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Knoxville for the Volunteer Invitational.
