TUSCULUM WOMEN FINISH EIGHTH, MEN 11TH

AT ERSKINE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

 

                DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's cross country team finished eighth, while the men posted an 11th place finish at Thursday's Erskine College Invitational.  The Tusculum women finished with 200 points in the 16-team field, while the men's squad accumulated 261 points in their 14-team event.

 

                In the women's race, Alicja Dembna posted a time of 21:50 on the 5,000-meter course to finish in 12th place.  Brooke Underwood recorded a 14th place showing with her time of 21:56.  Jenny Dold finished 39th with a time of 23:53, while Khirstin Two Crow placed 66th with her time of 26:18.  Lacey Webb finished 72nd with 27:26 to round out the times for the Pioneers.

 

                Wingate won the women's race with 86 points, edging out North Georgia (90) by four points.  Winston-Salem State finished third with 99 total points, followed by Erskine (138), Lander (144), Southern Wesleyan (164), UNC Pembroke (181), Tusculum, Newberry (209), Belmont Abbey (212), USC Aiken (251), North Greenville (311), Brevard (325), Toccoa Falls (327) and Paine (356).

 

                In the men's event, TC freshman Simon Hozapfel posted yet another top 10 finish as he placed seventh with a time of 28:23 in the 8,000-meter race.  Donald White finished 31st with 31:02, while Ben Hale recorded a time of 34:02, good enough for 62nd place.  Conner Graves (44:20) and Jason Seaton (44:21) finished 90th and 91st, respectively, to wrap up the TC scoring.

 

                Wingate won the men's meet with 66 points, followed by North Georgia (69), Erskine (96), Newberry (128) and Winston-Salem State (162) to round out the top five.  Belmont Abbey finished sixth with 198 total points, followed by Toccoa Falls (209), Claflin (210), Brevard (226), North Greenville (244), Tusculum, Southern Wesleyan (336) and Paine (353),

 

                The Tusculum men's team will be back in action on Friday as they run at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C.  The women will next compete at next Saturday's South Atlantic Conference Championship in Salisbury, N.C.
