JOHN GREGORY NAMED PRESEASON FOOTBALL ALL-AMERICAN

John Gregory                PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Tusculum College punter John Gregory has been named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette Preseason All-America Division II Football Team announced College officials Wednesday.

Gregory, a 6-2, 220-pound sophomore from Ooltewah, Tenn., was one of three punters named to the All-America team and one of six South Atlantic Conference players to be recognized.

Last year, Gregory averaged 40.9 yards per punt which was tops in the league, second in the NCAA II Southeast Region and 10th best in the nation.  His season average was the fourth best by a Tusculum punter and his 70 punts for 2,866 yards were both second all-time by a Pioneer.  He was named to the 2006 Football Gazette All-Southeast Region First Team and was an All-Region Second Team choice by Daktronics and D2football.com.

Gregory was named the D2football.com and Football Gazette National Special Teams Player of the Week when he boomed a career-long 75-yard punt against Catawba College.  The punt was the third longest in school history.

He also earned SAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades on three occasions last year and was tabbed to the All-SAC First Team.

Tusculum opens the 2007 season on Aug. 25 when the Pioneers travel to West Virginia to face the University of Charleston for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
