TUSCULUM LISTED IN NCAA FOOTBALL STATISTICS

 

                INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College football team is listed in this week's NCAA Division II statistics announced College officials Monday.

 

                The Pioneers (1-3, 0-0 in South Atlantic Conference) are mentioned in eight team categories while four TC players are listed individually.

 

                Tusculum is third in the country in fumbles recovered (8) and 10th in turnovers gained (10).  The TC defense is averaging 3.75 sacks per contest which is 11th best in the nation.  Tusculum is also 37th in total defense (291.0 ypg), 37th in pass efficiency defense (102.9 rating), 44th in scoring offense (32.5 ppg) and 50th in total offense (384.3 ypg).

 

                Junior quarterback Corey Russell (Speedwell, Tenn.) is 48th in the country in total offensive yards per game (222.3 ypg), while sophomore Ryan Tallent is 24th in receptions per outing averaging six catches a game which is tops in the conference.

 

                Junior Brandon Dixon (Brunswick, Ga.) is listed twice in this week's report.  He is 38th in kickoff return average (26.3 ypr) and 42nd in receiving yards per game (78.3 ypg - 1st in SAC).

 

                Sophomore John Gregory has the 28th-best punting average in the land, posting 39.9 yards per kick.  Two weeks ago, he averaged 48.8 yards on his four punts against Saint Paul's College, earning him SAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

 

                Tusculum defeated Saint Paul's 69-0 in the Pioneers last outing on Sep. 15.  Following a bye date last week, Tusculum will open the league slate this Saturday when it hosts nationally-ranked Wingate University (4-0, 0-0 SAC) for a 1:30 p.m. game at Pioneer Field.
