WYNNE SHOOTS RECORD 66, TUSCULUM ORANGE LEADS TC INVITATIONAL

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Chris Wynne established a new tournament record with his five-under par 66, as the Tusculum College Orange team carded an opening round 287 at the 2006 TC Men's Golf Invitational Saturday at Link Hills Country Club.  The TC Orange squad has three players in the top 10 and lead by 15 shots over second place USC Upstate (302).

 

                Wynne carded seven birdies and two bogeys as he breaks the previous tournament record of 67 held by former Pioneer Russell Eatly and Johnson & Wales' (Fla.) Michael Welch.

 

                Brevard College is in third place with 305, while Walters State College is fourth with 308.  The Tusculum Black squad is in fifth with 309 as Spartanburg Methodist College and Tri-County Technical College are tied for sixth with 310.  Georgia Southwestern University and the Wingate University B squad are tied for eighth at 311, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (314), Tusculum White (314), Bluefield College (315), Mars Hill College (316), University of Virginia's College at Wise (323) and Marian College (327).

 

                Wynne holds a five-shot lead over USC Upstate's B.J. Humphries, who carded an even-par round of 71.  Luke Miller of Tusculum Orange, Wingate's Martin Hackney and Walters States' Michael Colvin are in a three-way tie for third with 72.  Tusculum Orange's Nick Kinzer is in sole possession of sixth place with 73, while Jesse Puckerin of TC Black posted a first-round 74 and is in seventh.

 

                The final round of the 36-hole tournament will be played on Sunday morning on the par 71, 6,733-yard layout.
