TUSCULUM MEN SHOOT 299, TIED FOR THIRD AT RENDLEMAN

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Fresh off its win of its own tournament, the Tusculum College men’s golf team is continuing its stellar play as the Pioneers posted an opening round 299 and is in third place at the 2006 Richard Rendleman Invitational.

Tusculum is nine shots off the pace set by first place Pfeiffer University with 290, while Belmont Abbey College is four shots behind at 294. Tusculum is tied for third with Queens University of Charlotte, while Presbyterian College and UNC Pembroke are tied for fifth with 301.

TC senior Sasha Catron fired an even par 71 and is tied for fifth place and is three shots behind first round leader Patrick Townes (68) of Presbyterian. Chase Carroll is tied for 24^th with 75, while Chris Wynne is tied for 31^st with 76. Senior Nick Kinzer, last weekend’s Tusculum Invitational medalist, is tied for 40^th with 77, while Luke Miller rounds out the TC scoring with his opening 79 (T61^st).

Four teams are tied for seventh place at 303, led by tournament host Catawba College. Also tied at 303 are Clayton State University, University of Charleston and Grand Valley State University. Newberry College is 11^th with 305, followed by Barton College (307), Wingate University (310), North Greenville University (311), Lenoir-Rhyne College (312), Laval University (313) and Mars Hill College (314).
