GVSU SHOOTS 288 TO LEAD TUSCULUM INVITATIONAL

LMU's Charlie Hawes Fires Opening 69 for First Round Lead

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Grand Valley State University men's golf team posted an opening round 288 and leads the 2007 Tusculum College Invitational, held Saturday at Link Hills Country Club. 

 

The Lakers placed four players in the top 15, including Steve Larson, who carded a one-under par 70 and is one shot behind first round leader Charlie Hawes of Lincoln Memorial University, who posted a first day round of 69 (-2).

 

Tusculum's Darren Christie, playing as an individual, is in a three-way tie for second place at 70, along with Larson and Wingate University (B-Team) Manuel Fossas.  Three players are two shots out of the lead including Brian Carlson (Lewis University), Tony Mango (Grand Valley State) and Kasey Hocquard (Saginaw Valley State University - Individual).

 

                GVSU holds a five shot advantage over second place Lewis, who tallied 293.  USC Upstate is third with 296, followed by Saginaw Valley State (300), Georgia Southwestern State University (301), Wingate "B" (304), Tusculum (306), Newberry College (311), Lincoln Memorial (311), Spartanburg Methodist College (314), Mars Hill College (317), Tiffin University (317), Walters State Community College (318), the University of Virginia's College at Wise (32) and Tri-County Technical College (329).

 

                The final round will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday morning on the par 71, 6,733-yard layout.
