TUSCULUM FINISHES FIFTH AT RAIN-SHORTENED CAROLINA SANDS INTERCOLLEGIATE

 

                WHITE LAKE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men’s golf team recorded a 297 on Sunday to finish fifth at the rain-shortened Carolina Sands Intercollegiate.  The tournament was abbreviated to one 18-hole round for the 20-team field.

 

                Coker shot 286 to win the team title by eight shots over second place Fayetteville State.  Carson-Newman finished third with 295, followed by Catawba (296) and Tusculum (297) to round out the top five.  Cape Fear shot 299 to finish sixth, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (303), Mount Olive (304), St. Andrews (306), Lander (309), Newberry (309), tournament host UNC Pembroke (312), Shenandoah (313), Virginia State (315), Wingate (316), Pfeiffer (319), North Carolina Wesleyan (321), Felician (362), Chowan (375) and Ferrum (378).

 

                Tusculum’s Chris Wynne and Lawson George both carded rounds of one-over par 73 to finish tied for 13th place.  Chase Carroll carded a 75 to finish tied for 24th, while Jake Scheffers posted a 76 to tie for 32nd.  Matt McIntyre rounded out the scoring with his 77 to tie for 38th.

 

                This was the final tune-up for the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be held Apr. 14-15 in Hickory, N.C.
