TUSCULUM'S KINZER, WYNNE EARN NCAA GOLF REGION BIDS

                INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum College's Nick Kinzer and Chris Wynne have been selected to play as individuals at the 2006 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Men's Golf Championship next month announced College officials.

 

                Kinzer and Wynne become the third and fourth players in the program's history to participate in the NCAA Regional.  The Super Regional will be held May 1-3 at the Rocky River Golf Club in Concord, N.C. and hosted by Pfeiffer University

                Kinzer, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn. (Notre Dame HS), is leading the Pioneers with a 76.41 stroke average and has posted six top 15 showings, including three in the top 10.  Kinzer earned medalist honors at the Tusculum Invitational last month and was named to the 2006 All-South Atlantic Conference First Team.

 

                Wynne, a sophomore from Johnson City, Tenn. (Science Hill HS), accounted for four top 20 finishes and 76.50 scoring average, which was second on the team.  He was the runner-up at the Tusculum Invitational and tied for ninth at the SAC Championship earlier this month.

 

                Also playing as individuals at the NCAA Regional are Dane Fairfield (Carson-Newman), Richard Lowe (Catawba) and Ben Karns (Presbyterian).

 

                Joining the five individuals in the Southeast Region portion of the tournament will be eight teams including USC Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic State, Columbus State, Georgia College & State, USC Upstate, UNC Pembroke, Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry.

 

                The top team from each region within the super regional and the top individual not with a team from each super regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 16-19 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia. The finals will be hosted by Concord University and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
