TUSCULUM'S WYNNE 29TH, CARROLL 36TH AT NCAA
REGIONAL
POOLER, Ga. --- Tusculum College junior Chris Wynne is tied for 29th place while sophomore
teammate Chase Carroll is tied for
36th following the opening round of the 2007 NCAA Division II
Southeast Men's Golf Regional. The
three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 72, 7016-yard Savannah
Quarters Country Club.
Wynne carded an 83 and is 10
shots off the lead pace set by Columbus
State's Andrew Georgiou who fired a one-over
par 73.
Wynne,
the Johnson City, Tenn. product who is making his second
regional appearance in as many years, bogeyed four of the first five holes. He rebounded to shoot one-under par for the
remainder of his outward nine, including a birdie on the seventh hole. The Science Hill
High School graduate got
back to two-over par for his round following a birdie on the 11th hole
to get within a shot of the lead. But
five bogeys and a pair of double bogeys for his final seven holes plagued the
All-South Atlantic Conference honoree as he posted a 44 on the inward half.
Carroll, a Knoxville,
Tenn. native, shot 43 on his first nine and
scored a double bogey on two of his first five holes on the inward half as the Bearden High School alum shot an 85 in his NCAA
Regional debut. The All-SAC Second Team
selection finished with eight pars on the day, but seven bogeys and three
double bogeys kept Carroll from gaining any momentum.
The second round will be
contested on Tuesday with the regional concluding on Wednesday with the third
and final round.
