CHASE CARROLL NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT AT-LARGE TEAM

                                       

Chase Carroll                BRISTOL, Conn. --- Tusculum College golfer Chase Carroll has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division At-Large First Team announced officials Friday.

 

                Carroll, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., has accumulated a 3.85 grade point average, while majoring in Business Management.  He was named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete for Men’s Golf for a second straight season, while also earning All-SAC First Team honors.

 

                Chase advances to the Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced next month.

 

                Carroll posted a 73.05 scoring average this year, which was second on the team and third in the league.  But his career 75.21 stroke average is presently the lowest in school history, just ahead of former All-American Todd Ricker (1992-96, 75.27 avg.).

 

                The Bearden High School graduate recorded six top-10 performances, including a sixth place showing at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, the best finish ever by a Pioneer at a NCAA Championship event.  He captured medalist honors at the Tusculum Fall Classic for a second straight year and finished second at the Anderson Invitational.  The two-time All-SAC pick recorded five sub-par rounds, including a season-best 67 in the final round of the Tusculum Fall Classic.  His NCAA Regional appearance was his second straight postseason trip.

 

                Carroll has been named to the Dean’s List, President’s List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  In the community, Carroll has volunteered assisting the homeless, the “Empty Stocking Fund,” and tutoring and mentoring at a local elementary school.

 

                Members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, which include all colleges and universities from Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio and Michigan comprising District IV.
