TUSCULUM OPENS SEASON WITH SCHOOL RECORD ROUND,
PIONEERS LEAD AT ANDERSON INVITATIONAL

 

                ANDERSON, S.C. – The Tusculum College men’s golf team shot a school record 281 in the opening round of the 2007 Anderson University Invitational Monday at Brookstone Meadows.  Tusculum, playing in its first tournament of the season, posted four scores at par or better as the Pioneers are in quest of repeating as team champions of this event.

The Pioneers were led by rookie Lawson George, who shot a four-under par 68 on the par-72, 6,700-yard Brookstone Meadows course.  George is in second place, one shot off the pace set by Catawba College’s Allen Tuttle who fired an opening 67.  Following George for Tusculum were Chris Wynne with 69 (-3, 3rd), Chase Carroll with 72 (Even – T6th), and Glenn Vicary with 72 (Even – T6th).  Rounding out the scoring for the Pioneers is Jake Scheffers who posted an 84 (44th).

 

Tusculum's team score of 281 set a single-round tournament record and holds a six-shot lead over Catawba College (287) and 10 strokes ahead of third place Mount Olive College (291).  Tournament host Anderson is fourth with 295, followed by North Greenville University (296), Southern Wesleyan University (300), Lincoln Memorial (301), Anderson “B” (311) and Limestone College (313).

 

The final round will be held on Tuesday.
