TUSCULUM MEN IN EIGHTH PLACE AT KIAWAH ISLAND

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team fired an opening round 306 and is in eighth place following first day action of the 2005 Kiawah Island Invitational. The tournament is being held at the Cougar Point Golf Club and is hosted by two-time NCAA Division II National Champion USC Aiken.

Tusculum senior Nick Kinzer posted a two-over par 74 and is tied for 11th place. Rookie Chase Carroll carded a 76 in his collegiate debut and is tied for 28th. Senior Sasha Catron is tied 32nd following his 77. Luke Miller and Chris Wynne tallied rounds of 79 and 80, respectively.

The host Pacers hold a five-shot lead over Pfeiffer University and Coker College. Armstrong Atlantic State University is in fourth place with 300, while Presbyterian College rounds out the top five with 301. Newberry College is sixth with 303, followed by Carson-Newman (305), Tusculum, Lenoir-Rhyne College (307), Clayton State University (307), Lander University (310), USC Upstate (311), Georgia College & State University (313), North Greenville College (313), Catawba College (314), UNC Pembroke (318) and Barton College (319).

The final round will be contested on Tuesday.
