TUSCULUM MEN FINISH FIFTH AT KIAWAH ISLAND INVITATIONAL

 

                KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team carded a two-day tally of 616 to finish in fifth place at the 2005 Kiawah Island Invitational held at Cougar Point Golf Club.  The Pioneers shot 310 on the final day and moved up three spots on the leader board.

 

                Senior Nick Kinzer finished in the top 10 with consecutive rounds of 74 to card a 148 and tie for ninth place.  Freshman Chase Carroll tied for 20th with his 153 in his collegiate debut.  Luke Miller and Chris Wynne tied for 45th place at 159, while senior Sasha Catron rounded out the Tusculum scorers with 160.

 

                Tournament host and two-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion USC Aiken fired a 591 and won by three strokes over Coker.  USC Upstate and Armstrong Atlantic tied for third with 608.  Tusculum was fifth, followed by Clayton State (618), Carson-Newman (619), Pfeiffer (620), Catawba (622), Newberry (622), Georgia College (624), Lander (624), Lenoir-Rhyne (624), Presbyterian (626), UNC Pembroke (633), North Greenville (640) and Barton (643).

 

                The Pioneers return to action next week when they compete at the Johnny Palmer Invitational.
