TUSCULUM WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH AT OLD NORTH STATE

BADIN, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team finished fifth at the 2005 Pfeiffer Old North State Invitational, held this week and the par 72, 5,995-yard Old North State Club. Tusculum posted a two-day score of 701, including a final round 348.

Tusculum's Shannon Palenkas was the top finisher for the Pioneers as she placed 12^th with 82-83=165. Amanda Bowen finished 21^st with 83-87=171, while Mandy Hartsock, playing as an individual competitor, tied for 23^rd with 91-82=173. Amber Ladner tied for 29^th with 91-84=175, while Becca Friddle (101-93=194 - 46^th) and Mary Beth McFarland (97-107=204 - 53^rd) rounded out the scoring for Tusculum.

Catawba College won the team event with 651, six shots better than host Pfeiffer University. Newberry College placed fourth with 675, followed by USC Upstate (679), Tusculum, Wingate University (701), Armstrong Atlantic State University (706), Lenoir-Rhyne College (712) and Mount Olive College (736).

The Pioneers return to action March 18 when they play Lincoln Memorial University in a match play competition in Knoxville.
