PIONEERS TO HOST AGNES McAMIS
MEMORIAL NEXT WEEK
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will host the 10th
annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf
Invitational, April 2-3 at Link Hills Country Club. Of the 21 teams that will be participating in
this year's tournament, five are ranked in the NCAA Division II Top 25,
including the host Pioneers, who are listed 25th in the most recent
poll.
This week's tournament will be a
preview of next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship as all eight
sponsoring teams will be in Greeneville.
Joining Tusculum are No. 12 Newberry
College, No. 22 Catawba College, Lenoir-Rhyne College,
Mars Hill
College, Presbyterian
College and Wingate University. Wingate comes into this year's event with
some momentum, winning its own tournament last week at the Hargett
Memorial Intercollegiate. Tusculum and Catawba
finished second and third, respectively at that event.
No. 12 Pfeiffer University and
the University of
Indianapolis (No. 18) are
also nationally ranked. Pfeiffer is
making its fourth trip to the McAmis Memorial, while Indianapolis is making
its Greeneville debut.
The
field also includes Division II squads Anderson
University, Belmont
Abbey College,
Limestone College,
UNC Pembroke, Queens University of Charlotte, USC Upstate and St. Andrews Presbyterian
College. NCAA Division I Belmont University will be
making its second straight trip to the McAmis
Memorial this year, while King College and Southern Virginia University round
out the tournament field.
Tusculum College
has won the McAmis Memorial three times with its last
title coming in 2000. Lenoir-Rhyne won the event two years ago in 2002, while Lincoln
Memorial won the title in 2001.
Monday's (Apr. 2) opening round
will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the 5,832 yard, Par 72 layout. Tuesday's (Apr. 3) final round is slated to
begin at 8 a.m. Admission to the
two-day, 36-hole event is free and open to the public.
