PIONEERS TO HOST AGNES McAMIS MEMORIAL NEXT WEEK

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will host the 10th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, April 2-3 at Link Hills Country Club.  Of the 21 teams that will be participating in this year's tournament, five are ranked in the NCAA Division II Top 25, including the host Pioneers, who are listed 25th in the most recent poll.

This week's tournament will be a preview of next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship as all eight sponsoring teams will be in Greeneville.  Joining Tusculum are No. 12 Newberry College, No. 22 Catawba College, Lenoir-Rhyne College, Mars Hill College, Presbyterian College and Wingate University.  Wingate comes into this year's event with some momentum, winning its own tournament last week at the Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate.  Tusculum and Catawba finished second and third, respectively at that event.

No. 12 Pfeiffer University and the University of Indianapolis (No. 18) are also nationally ranked.  Pfeiffer is making its fourth trip to the McAmis Memorial, while Indianapolis is making its Greeneville debut.

The field also includes Division II squads Anderson University, Belmont Abbey College, Limestone College, UNC Pembroke, Queens University of Charlotte, USC Upstate and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.   NCAA Division I Belmont University will be making its second straight trip to the McAmis Memorial this year, while King College and Southern Virginia University round out the tournament field.

Tusculum College has won the McAmis Memorial three times with its last title coming in 2000.  Lenoir-Rhyne won the event two years ago in 2002, while Lincoln Memorial won the title in 2001.

Monday's (Apr. 2) opening round will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the 5,832 yard, Par 72 layout.  Tuesday's (Apr. 3) final round is slated to begin at 8 a.m.  Admission to the two-day, 36-hole event is free and open to the public.
