CENTRAL ARKANSAS TAKES FIRST ROUND LEAD AT McAMIS MEMORIAL

 

(First Round Results)

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Christina Lecuyer carded a four-over par 76 to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a first round lead of the 2005 Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, held Monday at Link Hills Country Club.  Central Arkansas, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, has three golfers in the top 10 as they posted 315.

 

                UCA, last year's McAmis Memorial Champion, holds a four-shot lead over Florida Gulf Coast University and No. 18 Pfeiffer University who are tied for second at 319.  Tournament host Tusculum College shot 333 and is tied for fourth place with seventh-ranked University of West Florida, rounding out the top five.

 

                Individually, Newberry College's Eva Cormann shares the first round lead with Lecuyer, one shot better than Natalie Lueck of Florida Gulf Coast, who is in third with 77.  A quartet of golfers are tied for fourth with 78, including Jenna Goulet (Lincoln Memorial University), Heather Hagerman (Florida Gulf Coast), Nikki Taggart (Pfeiffer) and Kate Eck (Central Arkansas).

 

                Tusculum's Shannon Palenkas leads a three-way tie for eighth with 79, along with Pfeiffer's Fiona Hindshaw and Tanner Trumbo of Central Arkansas.

 

                In the team competition, Lenoir-Rhyne College is in sixth place with 335, followed by Berry College (336), Catawba College (338), Newberry (338), Limestone College (342), Wingate University (348), Anderson College (356), Lincoln Memorial University (363), Queens University of Charlotte (365), Ashland University (383), St. Andrews Presbyterian College (383) and the University of Montevallo (407).

 

                The highlight of the day came from Andrea Johnston of St. Andrews as she aced the par 3 16th hole en route to shooting 81.

 

                The final round will be played on Tuesday on the par 72, 5,804-yard layout.
