CENTRAL ARKANSAS WINS THIRD STRAIGHT McAMIS MEMORIAL

2006 Agnes McAmis Memorial Champions

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Central Arkansas posted a two-round 643 to edge Pfeiffer by one stroke to win the 2006 Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, held this week at Link Hills Country Club.  The Sugar Bears win the tournament for a third consecutive year as UCA matches the three consecutive McAmis Memorial titles won by host Tusculum from 1998-2000.

 

                Catawba's Paige Haverty claimed medalist honors while establishing three tournament records.  Haverty shot a 36-hole record 148 to win by eight shots over UCA's Christina Lecuyer and Lorie Warren of Belmont, who each fired 156.  Haverty's final round 71 tied a tournament record for lowest 18-hole score, matching the 71 posted by Stephanie Hicks of Longwood in 2003.  Haverty's Tuesday tally was the lowest second round score in the nine-year history of the tournament.

 

                Belmont finished third with 646, while West Georgia posted a fourth place showing with 653.  Catawba made the biggest move of the day as the Lady Indians fired a second-day low 315 to shoot 654 and finish fifth.  Newberry finished sixth with 659, followed by Wingate (661), Berry College (665), USC Upstate (668), Tusculum (683), Ashland (687), Lenoir-Rhyne (687), Limestone (695), Anderson (699), Montevallo (712), Belmont Abbey (729) and Mars Hill (775).

 

                Wingate's Beth Kirkham and Britany Beltran of Pfeiffer each posted 157, joining Haverty, Lecuyer and Warren on the McAmis Memorial All-Tournament team.

 

                Tusculum was led by Amanda Bowen, who finished tied for 23rd with 164, including Tuesday's final round 78.  Shannon Palenkas tied for 29th with 167, while Mandy Hartsock shot 175 (T52), including a second round 81.  Becca Friddle tied for 60th with 177, followed by Amber Ladner's two-day 185 (T78).  Playing as individuals, Liz Ennen tied for 74th with 183, while Susanne Sisco tallied a 192 (T90).

 

                Tusculum returns to action Apr. 10-11 as the Pioneers compete at the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship in Hickory, N.C.
