TUSCULUM WOMEN'S GOLF LISTED NO. 10 IN NCAA REGION POLL

 

                INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College women's golf team is listed No. 10 in this year's inaugural NCAA Division II South Region Poll.

 

                The Pioneers are enjoying an outstanding season, finishing in the top half of seven of its eight tournaments this year, including four top three finishes.

 

                Florida Southern holds the top spot in the region, followed by defending NCAA II national champion Rollins.  Lynn is holds the third spot followed by West Florida and Nova Southeastern.  Barry is in sixth, followed by Newberry, Florida Gulf Coast, USC Upstate and Tusculum.

 

                TC has recorded three top five finishes in the spring, including last week's third place showing at the Agnes McAmis Memorial.  Tusculum senior Amanda Bowen established a new school 36-hole record with her two day 146.  In the final round Bowen tied a school and South Atlantic Conference record with a three-under par 69.

 

                Senior Shannon Palenkas leads the team with her 78.25 scoring average, which is on pace to shatter the school record.  Bowen is second with 79.81, followed by freshman Mary Ann Vizcarrondo with 83.38, the lowest scoring average ever by a TC rookie.

               

                The top six teams in the region will compete in the NCAA II South Region Championship, which will be held Apr. 30-May 2 in Lakeland, Fla.

 

                The Pioneers return to action next week at the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship in Hickory, N.C.  Tusculum will be in search of its third SAC title (2000, 2001).
