TUSCULUM WOMEN IN FOURTH AT SAC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

                                                                                  

                HICKORY, N.C. --- Tusculum College's Amanda Bowen carded a two-round 166 and is in third place following first day action of the 2005 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship, held this week at Lake Hickory Golf Club at Catawba Springs.

 

                The Pioneers shot 702 and are in fourth place for the team championship.  Tusculum shot well for the first 18 holes posting 345 and was tied for second, three shots out of the lead.  Catawba College leads after 36 holes with 684, while Newberry College is in second with 686.  Host Lenoir-Rhyne Colelge is third with 699, followed by Tusculum and Wingate University (711).

 

                Bowen, an All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, posted scores of 81 and 85 and is six shots off the pace set by Newberry's Aubrey Mosley (84-76=160).  All-Conference First Team standout Shannon Palenkas is in fifth place (82-87=169), while Mandy Hartsock is tied for 19th with 183.  Rachel Quinlan-Waters is tied for 21st with 184, followed by Lisa Ruehman with 192 which is tied for 25th place.  Becca Friddle, playing as an individual, is 27th with 193.

 

                The final round will be played Tuesday on the par 72, 5,864-yard layout.
