PALENKAS THIRD, TUSCULUM SEVENTH AT LENOIR-RHYNE/MYRTLE BEACH INTERCOLLEGIATE

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Shannon Palenkas fired an opening round 74 and is two shots out of the lead after day one action of the 2006 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, held this week at River Hills Golf Club.

Palenkas is tied for third place and two shots behind co-leaders Andrea Maldonado of Nova Southeastern and USC Upstate's Richelle Wedzik.

Tusculum posted a team scored of 325 and is in seventh place in the 18-team tournament field. Nova Southeastern carded 304 and is 11 shots ahead of second place Pfeiffer. West Florida and Newberry are third with 320, while USC Upstate and Catawba are tied for fifth at 321. Tusculum is seventh, followed by Wingate (332), Armstrong Atlantic (332), Anderson (332), Belmont Abbey (341), Ashland (344), Queens (346), Mt. Olive (353), Lenoir-Rhyne (356), Limestone (379), UNC Pembroke (393) and King (405).

Tusculum freshman Mary Ann Vizcarrondo shot 77 and is tied for 77, while Mandy Hartsock is tied for 42^nd place with 84. Becca Friddle shot 90 and Amanda Bowen tallied 93 to round out the scoring for the Pioneers.

The final round will be held on Tuesday on the par 72, 5,809-yard layout.
