TUSCULUM WOMEN FINISH 14TH AT L-R/MYRTLE BEACH INTERCOLLEGIATE

 

                MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Amanda Bowen shot a final round 82 to finish with 166 to tie for 41st place at the 2005 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Women's Golf Intercollegiate, held this week at the Bay Tree - Gold Course.  The Pioneers tallied 338 on Tuesday to post a two-round score of 682 to finish 14th in the team competition.

 

                Shannon Palenkas and Rachel Quinlan-Waters each accounted for a 36-hole score of 169 to tie for 48th.  Becca Friddle finished tied for 70th with 178, while Mandy Hartsock posted 186.  Casey Stansberry shot 190 playing as an individual competitor for the Pioneers.

 

                West Florida won the team title as they held off a second day charge by Grand Valley State who shot a tournament low 301 on Tuesday.  The Argonauts posted a 615 to edge GVSU by four strokes.  Nova Southeastern placed third with 320, followed by Central Arkansas (631), Drury (636), Pfeiffer (637), Newberry (648), Catawba (667), Limestone (673), Wingate (677), Ashland (678), Lenoir-Rhyne (679), Anderson (679), Tusculum, Armstrong Atlantic (692), Queens (696), Belmont Abbey (708), St. Andrews (712), Mount Olive (744), Mars Hill (804) and Lincoln Memorial (DNF).

 

                Drury's Tonya Choate captured medalist honors carding a one-over par 145 over the 36-hole tournament held on the par 72, 5,807-yard layout.

 

                The Pioneers return to action next week when they compete at the Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
