PALENKAS EIGHTH, TUSCULUM NINTH AT RENDLEMAN INVITATIONAL

 

            SALISBURY, N.C. --- Shannon Palenkas posted an opening round 78 and is tied for eighth place after day one action at the 2006 Patsy Rendleman Invitational, held Monday at the Country Club of Salisbury.

 

            The Pioneers shot a team score of 339 and is in ninth place.  Tournament host Catawba shot a school record 310 and holds a four-shot lead over Newberry (314).  Wingate is third with 318, followed by Pfeiffer (320), Belmont Abbey (328), Queens (334), Lenoir-Rhyne (335), Anderson (336), Tusculum and UNC Pembroke (385).

 

            Becca Friddle posted an 82 and is tied for 20th place, while Amanda Bowen's 88 has her in 43rd.  Susanne Sisco is tied for 48th with 91, while Mary Ann Vizcarrondo is tied for 50th with 92.

 

            The final round will be played on Tuesday on the par 72, 5,949-yard layout.
